Privacy
What happens to your details when you write to us, and what this site does and does not collect, as section 18 of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 requires.
Who is responsible
Masa Township Experience, which we run in Langa, Cape Town, is the responsible party for your personal information, and our information officer is Masande Mhluzi. Reach us at ogblackacex@gmail.com or +27 63 611 1532.
What you send us, and why
The contact form asks for your name, your email address and your message, and optionally your phone number, the experience you want, a date and the size of your group. Sending it emails those details to us, and nothing is stored on this website. The address you sent it from is held in the server's memory for one minute, so the same address cannot fire the form over and over; it is not written down and it is not attached to your message. Writing on WhatsApp, by email or by phone gives us the same kind of information.
It is used to answer you, to plan the day and to run the booking, and for nothing else. Giving it is voluntary, but without it a booking cannot be arranged.
Cookies and counting
This site sets no cookies, reads nothing your browser has stored and shows no advertising. It counts visits and measures how quickly pages load, in a way that identifies nobody and that never sees what you type.
Who else sees it
- The services that carry the message: Vercel, which hosts the site, Resend, which turns the form into an email, and Google, where that email lands.
- WhatsApp, if that is how you write. It is run by Meta under its own terms.
- GetYourGuide, if you book there, on their terms and their privacy notice.
- A partner hostel, hotel or host, only if they made the booking with you.
- Nobody else. Your details are never sold, rented or handed to advertisers.
Where it goes
Those services run on servers outside South Africa, so your message crosses borders, which section 72 of POPIA allows where the receiving service is bound by comparable protection. If you would rather keep it local, call instead of writing.
How long it is kept
Messages are kept while the booking is arranged and for a while after the day, so a returning guest or a question about a past tour can be picked up. Records that go with money received are kept for five years, as South African tax law requires. After that they are deleted.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to it being used, and withdraw consent at any time. Write to ogblackacex@gmail.com and it is handled without a fee. Guests writing from the EU or the UK have the same rights under the GDPR, at the same address.
If you are not happy with the answer, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa, inforegulator.org.za, at POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za.
Photos of people
The photos on this site were taken on tour and show guests, hosts and neighbours. If you are in one and would rather not be, write to ogblackacex@gmail.com and it comes down.
Changes
If how any of this works changes, this page changes with it. Business details and booking terms are on the legal page, and the records we keep are listed in the PAIA manual.
